Who benefits from Mercy Learning Center? MLC offers a route to success for students of all educatoinal needs...from those who are simply missing study skills to those in need of help to compensate for learning disorders.
MLC is a safe supportive learning environment where students: - Experiment with new strategies MLC’s Staff is a “ team” to support your child: MLC can easily coordinate with Mercy Family Center psychologists and psychiatrists due to our association and location together.
Academic Therapy (AT) helps the learning
different student develop basic skills and other learning strategies
needed for optimal school performance. A Case Manager works with the
parents to write an Individual Learning Plan detailing short and long
term objectives. Study Skills Coaching (SS) provides practice in 12 different skills
from listening to test taking, at the appropriate grade level for “On
Your Own” and “In The Classroom” applications. Academic Enhancement (AE) concentrates on a specific area of study
during the slower pace of summer. Areas of study include: Call or email MLC to discuss your child’s academic situation with a case manager. Actively Read to
Write: (AT) Provides
strategies to improve reading comprehension, especially sorting the
main idea from details. Helps in the construction of all elements of
writing from sentences to essays. Algebra I Preview: (AE) Concentrates on the basic concepts of Algebra
I—equations and factoring. Gives a solid foundation to build
on in the upcoming school year. Algebra I Review: (AE) Focuses on functions, factoring and graphing.
Bridges the gap to Algebra II. Begin to Read and
Spell: (AT) Gives the budding reader and writer
a solid, felt connection between letters and sounds. Creates confidence
and makes reading fun for the youngest students. Building Reading
and Spelling: (AT) Increases accuracy and rate of
reading and spelling of the halting reader or writer. Establish Math
Early: (AT) Offers a review and provides extra practice
in math concepts, processes, and facts needed for the upcoming grade.
Provides hands on experience and games, as well as paper and pencil
practice. Listening to Learn: (AT) Helps with remembering and following oral
instructions, a very important skill, since as much as 70% of a student’s
school day is spent listening. Multisensory Handwriting: (AT) Focuses on forming letters and numbers
easily and automatically. Reading Comprehension
to Summary Writing: (AT) Builds skills necessary
for writing essays and research papers. Sort information for better
comprehension, exact notes, and concise summaries. Study Skills: (SS) Addresses various skills needed for studying “On
Your Own” and “In The Classroom”. Taught at the level
appropriate for elementary, middle school, or junior high students. Spanish I Preview: (AE) Jump starts basic vocabulary and concepts.
Especially advantageous to a student entering a foreign language course
for the first time. Spanish I Review: (AE) Reviews the latter concepts of Spanish I. Makes
a smooth transition between Spanish I and II when lag time has occurred
between the two.
