Opportunities For Giving Ways to Donate | How to Donate
Mercy Family Center appreciates any and all contributions provided by community members. Cash, pledges, securities and other gifts will enable us to more fully meet our mission by continuing to provide services to all of those who seek our help, regardless of their ability to pay. All donations to Mercy Family Center will be acknowledged; however, we honor and respect our donors’ rights to make anonymous gifts. We do not sell, rent or share our donors’ personal information with third parties.
Mercy Family Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Service, welcomes gifts of all types including cash, securities, goods and services, and matching donations. All gifts are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by applicable laws. Here are just a few of the ways that you can choose to make a gift. Before donating to Mercy Family Center, we recommend that you consult your tax advisor or attorney for full advice on the effect of your gift. A Gift of Cash: Gifts of cash, paid outright or pledged over as many as five years, provide immediate support for the organization. Those who itemize their income tax returns are entitled to a charitable deduction of up to 50% of adjusted gross income, with a five-year carry-over period for the excess. A Gift of Appreciated Stock: Appreciated stock (held more than one year) can make an excellent gift. Not only do you avoid all capital gains taxes, but you also receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of your gift. The full value may be used to offset up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. In addition, the portion of the gift that exceeds the 30% threshold may be carried forward for as many as five additional years. A Charitable Gift Annuity: In exchange for a gift of cash or securities, you may choose to create a qualified Charitable Gift Annuity. The Sisters of Mercy Health System will guarantee lifetime payments to you, your survivor, or another person you name. The annuity rate is based on the age(s) of the annuitant(s). You may receive a substantial income tax deduction in the year of the gift and a portion of the payments to you may be tax-free. Upon your death, the remaining portion of the gift supports Mercy Family Center. Qualified Charitable Gift Annuities are simple to draft, understand, and enjoy. A Gift through Your Will (Bequest): One of the simplest ways to give is through your estate. You can make a gift bequest in your will to Mercy Family Center for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after you have provided for others. A Gift of Life Insurance: You can make a significant gift by naming Mercy Family Center as a beneficiary of all (or a portion) of the proceeds of an existing policy. This method allows you to make a major gift with only a modest annual payment. For more information or to donate by phone, please call Stephen J. Engro at (504) 838-3222.
